Father and son duos in music are few and far between these days–usually musicians pass their love along to their kids and there are simply bands in two different generations. Enter Wizard Death, the joint venture between proud papa Tim Kenefic (Assimilator/Throne) and his son Alex who provided the vocals on the band’s 2023 demos and even intrigued his vocal coach, Witch Mountain’s Kayla Dixon enough to join in on the whole EP. The end result of their collaboration is the EP I Am The Night. The EP evokes the pure sounds of heavy metal as it was played in the 1980s with some of the young vocalist’s interests being decidedly more ‘90s and ‘00s: Goosebumps and Harry Potter sit at the center of his fantasy world.
We have the distinct pleasure of debuting the new track “Under The Southern Cross” featuring more of Dixon’s heavy metal shouts and Kenefic’s guitarwork.

Tim Kenefic had this to say regarding the track:
Lyrically we were talking about when I played rugby in New Zealand. The team I was on had a chant that started with “Under the southern cross we stand…” From there we wrote about being in battle. I don’t think Alex knows that my inspiration was Rugby and Polynesian culture. He was talking about wizard fights and swords. It came together really nicely though. It has Alex’s favorite hook so I am proud of that.
Wizard Death will have their live debut on March 1st at Black Circle in Indianapolis, with a stacked Indiana power metal lineup of Throne of Iron, Cursed Blade, and Ice Howl. Midwest metal faithful, heed the call!
