Singer-songwriter-producer Emily Hulslander (one half of Guyville, with Kat Hamilton) embarks with her solo nom-de-song, Social Drag, releasing tonight her self-titled debut EP.
The six-song gem began as a meditation during quarantine in 2020, channeling ’90s indie rock inspirations like Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Liz Phair and Weezer. The result, re-recorded with her band and mastered by Jett Galindo at Bakery Mastering, is a soulful kick-around in the woods of self-reflection.
The lead track, “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” is a catchy rocker about how obsessions just won’t let go, combining crunchy guitars, lilting riffs and an angsty chorus. It’s a great combination of all influences together with Hulslander’s gift of melody shining through.
