Kerry Washington Compares Her Show ‘Unprisoned’ to ‘Scandal,’ Says New Series Are Cancelled Without Getting a Chance | Kerry Washington, Television, Unprisoned | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Kerry Washington shared her thoughts about how the TV industry works in 2024, and she’s not impressed with how quickly shows are scrapped.

The 47-year-old actress referenced the decision to cancel her show Unprisoned, which she starred in and executive produce, after only two seasons.

While attending the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, she compared the series to her massive hit Scandal, which took almost two seasons to take off. Of course, it then became a global sensation.

“Unfortunately, we’re not getting a third season [of UnPrisoned] — They’ve made that decision based on two seasons, which is … 16 episodes, that is less than one season of Scandal,” she said, via The Wrap.

She continued, noting, “The first season [of Scandal] was a midseason replacement, but we got extended, and we were on the bubble until the end of our second season, so it took us close to 40 episodes before people thought, Okay, this show’s … going to work out [and] another season before we were really a global hit.”

Kerry said that her team advocated for Unprisoned to get another season to no avail.

“We feel like there could have been some different choices made around launch and how the show was put into the world, but you also have to know that in any business, you got to collect your nos,” she said. “Not everything’s going to be Scandal. Not everything’s going to hit in the exact same way. We’ve had extraordinary successes, and we’re just going to keep moving.”

Speaking of Scandal, did you hear about the recent reunion?
