The original spin-off manga, ‘The Mononoke Journal by Chuzenji-sensei,’ is confirmed for an anime adaptation in 2025. This prequel to the acclaimed ‘Hyakki Yako’ series, which has surpassed 10 million copies in circulation, promises to enthrall audiences with its supernatural storyline.
The Mononoke Lecture Logs: A New Chapter
Set in post-war Tokyo, 1948, the story follows Kanna Kusakabe, a high school student, who encounters Akihiko Chuzenji, a new Japanese language teacher. Together, they face various supernatural incidents at school. The anime will be produced by 100studio, with Chihiro Kumano directing, Atsushi Oka handling series composition and scripts, and Masahiko Suzuki designing the characters.
Anticipation Builds for Chuzenji-sensei’s Anime
A teaser visual has been released, generating excitement among fans. Aki Shimizu, the original manga author, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I can’t believe that there’s going to be a Chuzenji-sensei anime! I’m so honored! I’m going to look forward to it as a viewer myself.” Natsuhiko Kyogoku, the series founder, added, “A man who was born from the words that I wrote and was given a physical form through Aki Shimizu’s sorcery is now going to be moving and talking. He’s also apparently young. I can’t help but be shocked.”
