While on Rich Roll‘s podcast, Tom explained that he felt a “new sense of power” in how he handles things professionally now that he is through his initial contract with Marvel. On the topic of returning, he said that there were negotiations because he didn’t “want to make another movie for the sake of making it.”
“I want to make another one,” he stressed. “I want to make many more. But I want to do it for the right reasons.”
He said that he felt a lot of gratitude for the fans for making all of this possible, which added a sense of responsibility.
“I feel like I owe it to them to give and deliver the best version of what the next chapter for Spider-Man looks like, and I think that’s really important. And I think the creative integrity for something like that is really important, and the studio is on board and supportive and really collaborative,” he said.
Tom stressed that Marvel has been “so welcoming.”
What’s the timeline?
“We’re trying to get it going as soon as possible. Things are looking great, but there’s still a lot of moving pieces that need to come together for us to hit the ground running,” he explained.
Here’s the most exciting part: A draft of the script is ready!
“We have a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,” Tom gushed.
However, he said “There’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going.”
Another star who played Spider-Man recently weighed in on if he would reprise the role again.
