’90 Day Fiance’: Is Rishi Giving Sumit Vibes?


90 Day Fiance fans get Sumit Singh vibes from the new guy on The Other Way, Rishi Singh. And it also seems like his situation with his older lover Jen Boecher is a lot like Jenny Slatten’s history (minus the catfishing) on the TLC series.

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way – Sumit Singh Drags out Engagement

In case you wonder, no, Sumit Singh and Rishi Singh are not related despite a common last name. In fact, their last name is very common — the sixth most common on the planet. There are more than 36 million other Singhs, mostly in Asia.

You’ll recall 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way introduced Jenny and Sumit’s story on Season 1. The two met on Facebook in 2012, and she later decided to visit to him in India. However, he first catfished her by using fake photos and the name Michael.

Eventually, he came clean and she went to see him, staying four months. But she pretended to be his platonic friend in front of his parents — despite her taking his virginity on that visit.

Then, Jenny visited for a second time. However, she found out that Sumit was in an arranged marriage by then. After many nasty fights with his family, Sumit finally divorced in 2020, as seen on the 90 Day Fiance spinoff.

But getting the divorce came with emotional blackmail from his mother, Radha Singh. Then, Jenny Slatten settled for a promise ring after waiting eight years to be his wife. And she’d have to keep up with her patience.

Despite all the obstacles they faced on The Other Way, the two finally tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2021. When his parents found out, they disowned Sumit Singh. But the pair seem happy together as they spend their life in India.

And now, we’ve got another couple with a very similar story involving an age gap, cultural differences, and lots and lots of lies. That’s where we find Rishi Singh and his 90 Day Fiance, Jen Boecher.

Rishi Repeats Sumit’s Behavior on The Other Way – But Jen Boecher Smarter?

Rishi and Jen are the latest stars of The Other Way in Season 4. Like Sumit, Rishi is from India. And he’s similarly from a culture where arranged marriages are traditional. But Rishi expressed a desire for a love match, and his family seemed surprisingly receptive.

Despite their openness, Rishi’s family is still in the dark about his plan to marry an older American woman, as seen on 90 Day Fiance.  Rishi’s plan is to introduce Jen to his family as a friend. Fans of the TLC show feel like they have heard this song and dance before.

You’ll recall that Jenny let herself be pushed into the friend zone, which led Sumit’s family to marry him off to another woman. However, it looks like Jen learned the lessons of watching The Other Way. Or she’s just got a more assertive personality.

When Rishi Singh tried to get Jen to squeeze into a traditional Indian outfit and be presented as a pal, she shut him down hard. She not only refused the clothing that isn’t to her liking, but she also said she didn’t want to meet his family at all.

On 90 Day Fiance, The Other Way, Jen seems totally unwilling to be Rishi’s secret. But he’s still playing the same type of games that Sumit Singh pulled on his family and Jenny. Some fans even joked that “Sumit walked so Rishi can run”.

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way – Will Jen & Rishi Make it Last Like Jenny & Her Man?

This season so far has been full of surprises. But the latest development in the storyline between Rishi and older lover Jen may be the biggest shock yet. After years of keeping their engagement a secret, Jen finally met Rishi’s family after her temper cooled.

Not only that, but she shimmied into some traditional Indian garb for the meetup in Jaipur with his family. But it didn’t go so well on The Other Way. They met with resistance and part of that is about his lies to his family — as well as to his 90 Day Fiance. She asked Rishi, “You’re telling me your family is gonna keep you under house arrest?”. But he insists he doesn’t get “Why don’t you understand this?” and added, “I can’t be a bad guy.” So, he knows his parents will see him choosing her as a “bad” thing.

It’s clear that Rishi Singh’s family is not on board with the idea of him marrying Jen. And that casts a dark cloud over the future of their relationship. As things stand now, Jen doesn’t want to be around his family. And Rishi’s big fat fibs leave him stuck in the middle. Will she call off her engagement to Rishi Singh? And are you getting Sumit Singh 2.0 vibes from this guy? It worked out for Jenny and Sumit, but it looks rough for the new twosome.
